This is the question we can't give a straight number on without seeing the property, and anyone who quotes a full landscape project over the phone without walking the yard is guessing. But the factors that actually move the price are consistent, and knowing them makes the quote conversation a lot more useful.
Site conditions come first. A flat, easy-access yard costs less to work than a sloped property, a lot on a tight lot, or a backyard equipment has to be walked into by hand because there's no way to drive a skid loader back there. Grading and drainage complexity is one of the biggest swing factors, a property that already sheds water correctly costs less to finish than one that needs a full regrade or a French drain system first.
Material choice matters more than most people expect. Retaining walls can be built in manufactured block or natural stone, and those aren't close in price. Patios can be pavers or poured concrete, with a real cost gap between them. None of these choices are wrong, they're just different price points for different priorities, durability, look, and long-term maintenance all factor in.
Scale and scope are the obvious one, more square footage of patio, more linear feet of wall, more beds to build out, all scale roughly with size. What's less obvious is that combining phases into one project is usually more efficient than spreading them out over separate visits, since base prep and equipment mobilization get shared across the whole job instead of repeated for each piece.
Access and site prep can add cost in ways that aren't visible in the final result. A yard that needs old landscaping torn out, a tree removed, or fencing taken down and reinstalled to get equipment through all adds real time before the actual landscaping work even starts.
None of this replaces an actual walk-through and quote, but if you're budgeting before you call anyone, the honest starting point is: bigger scope costs more, harder access costs more, and premium materials cost more, same as any other construction project.
